What is Responsive Design?

location_onPlain-English guide

Responsive web design means a website automatically adapts its layout to any screen — phone, tablet, or desktop — with the same content and URLs. It's why a site looks good on your phone without a separate mobile version.

Responsive sites use fluid grids, flexible images, and breakpoints that rearrange content at different screen widths. Because Google indexes one version of a page (the same URL for mobile and desktop), responsive design is also the cleanest setup for SEO.

Mobile traffic now dominates the web, and Google ranks mobile-first. Any serious website today — including every site we build — is responsive-first as standard.
